Shortly after Lora B. Hesse's death in 2005, her Executors initiated a lawsuit to recover a large amount of money they alleged had been misappropriated from her by a trusted relative. The lawsuit over this issue was settled almost seven years later--on the eve of trial in January 2012. The Executors entered into a settlement whereby farmland and woodland property (instead of cash) was conveyed to them as the full and final settlement of that lawsuit. This occurred because the defendant was unable to provide a cash settlement of the substantial sum of money estimated to have been taken from Lora B. Hesse. A few months later, in May of 2012, The Lora B. Hesse Trust was created with respect to this property featured on this website. All of the photographs shown here were taken on this scenic and interesting land. The legal mechanism of the Trust will assist us in instituting a program to restore and enhance biological diversity on this beautiful portion of northeast Iowa as well as helping us in our continuing efforts to preserve the natural heritage of this site.
